Day 6 in China... Sorry for the delay

Hey everyone!  Well we are on Day 6 here in China.  I am so sorry I have not posted but we were unable to get onto any social media sites.  All fixed now... via a VPN.

Ok so here is what's been happening:

Gotcha Day was amazing!  It was not as emotional as I thought it would be.  It was so chaotic and crazy and Laidyn was already in the room when we arrived that I barely had time to pull the camera out.  We were so happy to see her smiling and happy.  And it honestly just felt like we have known her always.  She cried for about 15 minutes and then eased up a bit.  The boys were amazing and so gentle with her.  Within an hour we were in a van and on our way back to the hotel...

On Days 2-5 we were a bit confined but managed through.  Having all three kids made exploring Hangzhou a little difficult.  It's a city with 7 million people and was extremely busy.  We ventured out for a few walks, shopped a bit, ate some ice cream and just spent time with Laidyn.  The kids swam a few times in the indoor pool too.  The hotel was AMAZING!  Josh worked his magic and got us upgraded to a suite in this 5-star hotel.  It made the stay very easy.

Day 5 - Laidyn's first plane ride... she did great!  2 hours and she only tried to get down a couple of times.  Arrived in Guangzhou late last night and got unpacked for the second time.

Day 6 - In Guangzhou we are near the Shamian Island which is beautiful.  The buildings and layout of the little area is all French influenced so it was like walking the streets in New Orleans... really cool!!!  Very sweet and comfortable to spend the day outside with the kids.  They played and made a few new friends.  Laidyn did great!  She also had her medical appt this morning.  She freaked out a bit... but it was over in about an hour.  It was mass chaos in that physical exam place... by far my least favorite part of the trip.  Glad that's over.

Having trouble posting pics... be back in a minute!

Article 5

Our Article 5 was picked up from the US Embassy in China on Friday, 10/15.  This document will prompt our TA (travel approval).  We are hoping to get that within 15 days... please pray it comes soon!  One more step and we are off... Based on our current timeline we should leave sometime bw 11/11 and 11/25.  Keep you all posted!

The crazy thing is that I feel completely NOT READY to leave.  What??!!!  Three years of planning and I still feel ahhhhh - not prepared.  Going into overdrive now to get everything together.

Love to everyone!

More good news...

Well God's grace is just pouring out today.  My sweet friend Jennifer, who is in China right now with her daughter Myah, saw Laidyn at the orphanage this morning (last night our time) and snapped some pictures for us.  Here is what she emailed me this morning:

"Oh my, she is the most precious thing ever!  Kinda shy, but wow... what a little angel you have.  She came to the baby room hand in hand with her foster brother, who will be adopted next week.  I would guess him to be 4 or 5.  I know nothing more about him then that, but you should ask on the yahoo group to see if you can keep in contact.  They said that they are very close."  Jennifer

Jennifer said she popped in and then she was off.  I am even more excited now!  I guess she is at the orphanage now - i will try to find out from our agency.  I knew she would be moved from the foster home to the orphanage, but we were not sure when.  I am so glad she is close to her foster brother and I will try to locate his new family... I know she will be able to attach to Bren and Noah easily!

What a day... we are coming sweet BeiLei... be there soon!!!

Getting Close...

Hey guys... we are getting soooo close.  Our Article 5 should be picked up on 10/14!Yipee.... we should get TA (travel approval) about 10-15 days after that.  Hopefully sooner.

We also received an update with some new pictures.  She is measuring and weighs the same as in August... no real changes.  In the pictures she is wearing the pj's we sent, playing with her purse and doll that we sent.  She's also standing - that makes me feel awesome bc we had not seen on of her just standing on her own yet.  :) I can't wait to show Payton the pictures - She played with that doll every time she came over while it was sitting on the counter waiting to be shipped to China.  I love that Laidyn is holding something that Payton touched and played with too.  Awhhhh!!!!

Also... to my wonderful family and friends who threw me the most precious baby shower this week - THANK YOU!  You are all wonderful and I could not be more grateful.  It was a perfect evening.  All of Laidyn's toys are put away, her clothes are washed and the suitcases are ready for packing.  Thanks so much for all of your love and support!!

I800 Approved Today!

Hey everyone... one more step down!  Our I800 was approved today.  God bless all of the employees and officials who have a hand in our paperwork process!  It never stops amazing me the number of people, who we will never meet, helping us to get our daughter home.  Next three steps are:

  1. NVC Letter
  2. Article 5 Issue
  3. Travel Approval
Then we are off!!

Also... please keep in your prayers the numerous families who are in different stages of their adoptions.  These families have been a great support to our family and are in need of your prayers.

Love to everyone - Kel

Hey everyone... here are some videos of Laidyn we received a few weeks ago.  Thank you to our wonderful new friends who taped this for us while picking up their daughter in China!  You can see in the first one - precious Elisyn trying to give Laidyn her gift.

Laidyn is not happy at all in these videos... :(  She was a very scared since she didn't know anyone at the orphanage.  Poor baby.  But you can see her move and hear her precious little voice!  God is great!

A Massage & some Luggage :)

Today Josh and I celebrated our 9th Anniversary! Wow... what a day! Dropped the kids off at school, grabbed some breakfast and headed over to Bumble Lane for a 90 minute couples massage.  I love that MAN!!!!  It was awesome.  I  can't stop thinking about when we celebrate the big 10 - our precious Laidyn will be here with us.

Then of course we ran some errands and ended up at Burlington to find some discounted luggage.  Found 2 awesome pieces perfect for travel to China - hard cover and feather light.  We were getting worried since the max weight from what we are hearing in like 25lbs.  Ugh - how will I ever make that happen!

Anyway... just got excited today to buy our first item specifically for the trip.  Yeah!!

Talk to you all soon!

Video!

Ahhh! We have video of Laidyn! Nothing could be better. Even though she is literally crying in all four videos... it's such a blessing to see her move, hear her voice and watch her interact. I can already tell that she is a calm child but when she is upset... watch out! If you go to my FB page you can view the videos. I have not figured out how to save them to my computer - it just won't let me - darn it!

Other news... everyone keeps asking when will we travel. It's still up in the air but all signs are pointing to us getting our TA (travel approval) around October 20th. Which means we should be in China approx. 2 weeks after that - so potentially we could be in China as early as early November. As each round of the last few approvals come in, we will have a better idea.

Keep ya posted!

LOA!!!!!

Our LOA has arrived!!!! Our agency called this afternoon and fedex'd it to us tonight. We will have it in our hands by tomorrow afternoon. Our LOA is the paperwork that we have been waiting for to move forward with the adoption. Now we have to file a few things and wait for travel approval from China which we will hopefully get by November!! THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I FEEL LIKE WE HAVE EVER RECEIVED! BeiLei Song (Laidyn BeiLei Wilson) is officially ours!

I have to admit Josh, Brennan, Noah and I did the dorkiest dance and little jump when we found out the news... it was one of those family moments I will never forget. :)

Now I can post some pictures! So here she is - our beautiful daughter! Thanks to all of you for your support, love and prayers. Please continue to pray for a speedy paperwork process over the next couple of months.

We have pictures and an update!!

Hey everyone!!! We received two new pictures of Laidyn on Saturday and three more pictures from the agency this morning! We cannot tell you how excited we are to have these!! I can't post them just yet, but as soon as our LOA arrives - hopefully in about a week I will be able to post.

In the first set of pictures she was not very happy - poor baby is crying up a storm. We should have some video too in a couple of weeks. She had been taken from her foster home and brought to the orphanage so she was probably very scared. An amazing family who is in China right now requested to visit with her and several other children while they were picking up their daughter. What a blessing that family has been to us!

The second set of images was sent to us by our agency. These are of her playing with some of the toys we sent in her care package. We can't wait to show them to you - she is sooo cute!!!!

Continue to pray, if you will, for our LOA to arrive soon!

Day 100 Waiting

Well tomorrow will be the 100th day of waiting for our LOA - double the average time. I just wanted to post a quick prayer request. Please pray for our paperwork to be expedited over the next two weeks. We are desperately hoping for our LOA to arrive by 8/29. We were told it should in the review room now, but that has not been confirmed yet. Please send your prayers!

Love to everyone and thanks for all of your support!

Update on Laidyn!

Hey everyone... we just received a great little update on Laidyn. No new pictures yet - they are still working on that. They indicated that she will need to be at the orphanage to get the new pictures taken - hopefully that will happen soon! So the good news:

She is still happily living with her foster family and is still very quiet and somewhat shy.

She weighs 22lbs (gained 2lbs since the last update).

Height - 32 inches tall (grew 4 inches since the last update).

48cm for her chest and head.

She has 8 teeth (6 new ones since our last update).

She is officially walking and talking a bit.

Her foster family did get our care package and they are showing her our pictures - she points and recognizes us as her American Family and calls us Mama and Baba(Daddy).

YEAH!!! Josh and I were both crying! Poor Josh was chocking up while on the phone with the agency!

Small bit of info, but so wonderful to get, especially the personal info! Have a great day - love to all!!!

New Timeline

Ok - based on all of the information I have and what I know from other families - this could potentially be the timeline. And this is if everything from here on out moves smoothly - no bumps at all. The numbers are what they are. The only thing we can do is hope for God's hand to work in a miraculous way! That is the last thing I am holding onto in hopes that Laidyn will be here before 2012:

7/20/11 - Were informed that our translated dossier was lost

7/22/11 - Re-translation complete and pending officer assignment

7/28/11 - Officer assigned to our dossier for LOA process to begin

Estimated Timeline Moving Forward:
8/29/11 - LOA should arrive

8/30/11 - USCIS Docs Sent

9/20/11 - USCIS Approval

9/30/11 - NVC Letter

10/30/11 - Article 5 Delivered

11/15/11 - TA Issued

Leave for China sometime b/w these dates: 11/25/11 - 12/15/11

Assigned to an Officer

To say that Josh has been amazing the last two weeks would be putting it mildly. He has been so persistent in getting information and things done with the adoption. Yeah Josh!!

We found out that an officer was finally assigned to our file today. That means that the process of creating our LOA "Letter of Approval" has begun. The timeline we are being given is about 2 weeks to get all of the information CCCWA needs to issue this document to us. The officer assigned to our file has told our facilitator that he is aware of our situation and will do his best to expedite. Our facilitator has assured us again that she will stay diligent in following up.

Once the research is done and the LOA is ready to be issued, our file gets sent to a different department that actually issues the LOA. That could take anywhere up to two weeks.

So best estimation - we are looking at 30 days from today to get our LOA. Praying it will come much sooner!! I have updated our estimated timeline so you can see how much this has changed our anticipated travel date.

Also... we have heard a few times that we might get some sort of update on Laidyn next week... pictures, size, etc. We'll see if that happens. We formally requested another update today - not sure how long that will take - keep you posted!

Love to all!!!
Kel

LOA Update - Not good but getting better

Hey everyone! Today is day 83 of our LOA wait (33 days past the average wait time) :(
I know it's been a while since I posted we have had so much going on... most of you are already aware of this but for some who are not here is the short version of the story:

We were made aware early last week that CCCWA had lost our translated dossier along with one other family's dossier. Since May 5th when we received our PA we have trusted that our paperwork was being processed like everyone else's. The review and translation did happen, but at some point after that the translated dossier was lost.

When we didn't get our LOA a couple of weeks ago we started asking questions, putting a little pressure on our agency. Finally after repeated attempts by them to have someone at CCCWA explain what was happening they told our agency about the documents being misplaced. Our original dossier was not lost so they were able to start translating it again. The second translation of our dossier was completed on Friday of last week and we are currently waiting for it to be assigned to an officer so the process of issuing our LOA can begin and issued asap. We have made arrangements to speak with our agency multiple times per week until our paperwork is back on track.

We were also told by both ladies dealing with our adoption that in all of their years in the adoption world. they have NEVER had this happen. My husband and I are managing this very disappointing news the best way we can and trying to stay positive about our "new" timeline and moving forward. I am in some ways still completely in awe that this is happening.

Any prayers you can offer or advice would be appreciated!

Big News!!

Well... we have some big news! We have officially received and accepted a referral for a little girl in China! Her name is BeiLei Song and she is 15 months old. Our family could not be more excited! God is AWESOME!

On Sunday, May 1st at 9:15pm my cell phone rang. It was our agency rep. Our facilitator had found us a match. My heart sank into my stomach and I started shaking! I started waving at Josh who was on the sofa watching the breaking news about Osama Bin Laden. It was quite a moment. We could not believe that in just 4 short months since we switched to China - we would see a photo of our precious daughter. That moment seemed to last forever!

Laidyn was found abandoned near a railroad in a pavilion at the crossing of two streets in Hangzhou, China - that is our understanding. We are hoping to get some clarification on this in the future. She was estimated to be four months old when found and was given the birthday February 28, 2010. We have received information on her growth at 4 months, 7-9 months and a small bit of info at 14 months. She is a chunky monkey weighing in at 20 pounds sometime in early April. Wow - she's growing! Based on all of her medical charts and the opinions of the doctors we consulted (and there were many) they all think she is growing and developing beautifully!

Laidyn's Special Needs: you all know that the program we are in is a special focus program. Laidyn was placed in this pool of children for two reasons. She has a very light strawberry mark on her belly. The mark does seem to be superficial and is lighting up each month. :) She also has a minor heart defect. This is why it took us a few days to gather all of the info, have dr.'s review and make our decision. After consulting with three pediatricians, two nurses, and three cardiologists - they all had the same diagnosis - NOT A MAJOR HEART ISSUE! They were all confident in the fact that she is a healthy little girl! We will see our pediatric cardiologist as soon as Laidyn is home to triple check everything. Please pray that Laidyn stays healthy and we get to her soon! So... on Josh's Bday - May 3rd we accepted the offer to adopt this precious angel!

Now the emotional part: There are so many things that took place from April 26th - May 3rd! On April 26th I had a breakdown in my bathroom while alone in the house. I had been praying a great deal that week and it continued that day. I was to the point where I didn't understand why this was taking so long, why these precious angels have to wait to join loving, caring families. I cried and cried and asked God to just help me to understand. I told Him that I knew I was a strong and faithful person but that I was getting to my emotional breaking point. I was as honest in my prayer as I have ever been and I truly felt like I could not go one more day with this on my heart. The next night Noah and Brennan were putting something up in Laidyn's room and we started talking about the adoption. Of course I started to cry. I told them I didn't know when Laidyn would be here and I didn't know why it was taking so long and Noah stopped mid-step, turned and looked at me and said "Mommy, she'll be here in God's time" and then walked out the door. Wow - what a moment! Two days later we received the call from the agency.

The next 48 hours were tough! Trying so hard to get enough evaluations on her condition to make sure we made the right decision. We honestly felt like she was our daughter the moment we opened the file, but our need to protect the boys and to make the best decision for a child who is half way across the world weighed on us. To make things worse, our pediatrician was out of town and there was no way to get in touch with her. I asked the nurse to forward Laidyn's file to another dr. my friend Julia uses. We were very upset that our trusted pediatrician would not be able to help. We only had 48 hours left to decide. The rest of Monday went by with no word. I cried myself to sleep because I felt lost and didn't know what to do. I woke the next morning and while getting ready in the bathroom I started praying - I basically asked God to slap me in the face with the answer and that I needed to know what he wanted me to do. At 7:15 am my cell phone rang and it was Betsy (my cousin in law and dear friend)... she was calling to tell me that her sister had literally run into a cardiologist at the hospital she works at and had him give her his opinion on Laidyn. For some reason, precious Gina called her sister Betsy at 6:30 in the morning to make sure Betsy forwarded me the info. God answering my prayer I think!

One hour and 40 minutes later my cell phone rang again. On the other end was Dr. Reed - our backup pediatrician. I thanked her desperately and apologized that she had to take time to help us since our pediatrician was gone. She said "Oh no problem - I'm actually glad she's not here." I was confused. She went on to tell me how both of her daughter's were born with minor heart defects. How they are both thriving at 14 and 16 years old. She had contacted her kids cardiologist and reviewed the file with him. She told me how she believes God puts things into place just as they should be and that her being the person to review the file was meant to be. Wow! I, of course, began to cry! We accepted Laidyn's file 20 minutes later!

I cannot begin to explain the humbling feeling I felt to stand in the presence of God's work! I have always felt blessed in my life - but this was so very different. There were no words, no thank you enough, no gesture I could make to show HIM my thanks. Just tears and more tears! I felt so unworthy to accept His amazing gift. We are thorns in His crown, but He loves us anyway. No words could be more true! Our family is a living, breathing example of God reaching down into our lives and working His wonders! Not by answering our prayers in our time and in the way we thought - but in His time and in His way! And wow - it's so much better!

Now we wait! Our estimated wait time until we travel is anywhere from 2 to 4 months. We do have some paperwork to do now but mostly we wait. We will try to get updated pictures soon and send Laidyn a care package 1 or 2 times before we travel. We ask for all of your prayers that everything goes smoothly from here on. God IS with us and IS watching over our daughter! Thanks to everyone for everything - your support and well wishes mean more to us than you will ever know.

Love - Kel, Josh, Brennan, Noah & Laidyn

Adoption Update

Good evening everyone... most of you know that our paperwork safely made it to China at the end of March. We have been waiting since then to get a "Lock-In-Date" assigned to our packet of papers (dossier). We recieved that number today! This may seem like a minor thing, but this number is what will allow us to be matched to a little girl in China. Yeah! Things are happening and we are feeling very encouraged. Thanks as always for your prayers and good wishes. Talk to you all soon! Kel

2011 Update...

Sorry it's been so long since I updated and I aplogize to everyone who has asked me to "get to updating." ha.

We did officially move to the China Special Focus program in January. Our paperwork all needed to be updated and customized for China. After three months of work... the docs are all officially complete and are currently being approved.

Our papers arrived in DC yesterday for approval from the Embassy of China and the Department of State. A very nice man handling our dossier called me yesterday to let me know that he was taking care of our documents and should have everything back to me by the end of next week.

I did have a moment a week ago of utter exhaustion and emotional meltdown concerning a couple of documents that just kept giving us problems - three weeks of delays to be exact. So I started to pray and pray hard. I went to an event at church where the topic of the talk was about "long journeys" and how things happen so quickly for some people and for others it takes so much time and prayer. I opened my heart to why God makes us wait and to trust His timing and plan completlely. The evening was eye opening and life changing for me and the way I look at things. It was one of those moments when you know you hear God speak to your heart and know that you are in the place He put you in at that exact moment in time. At the end of the night, the speaker asked us to stand up and take whatever was in our hearts and just give it to God. So I did. That day Josh prayed over our package as he handed it to our trusted Fedex man as well! The very next morning the man from DC called with news about our papers! God does answer prayers... little by little He is working our adoption and answering our prayers!

As soon as the documents get back to me next week I will check them, add a few additional needed items and send to our agency who will immediatley send them to China. Once in China the papers will be processed and translated (should take about a month) and we will officially begin waiting again. Our anticipated wait time is not terribly long in "adoption time" maybe 6 months.

Continue to keep us in your prayers... we feel it is getting closer! Thanks as always for all of your prayers, questions and support! I am working on finishing up the planning my sister's baby shower and what a blessing our angel Grace will be once she is here! Please keep Kim and Brad in your prayers as well as they start the last leg of their pregnancy. Baby Grace will be here soon! The day the Brennan, Noah, Payton, Grace and Laidyn will all be together to play will be a day for amazing celebration! We all can't wait!

Love to everyone!
Kel
